Title: Poulan/ branded as a craftsman flooding
Post by: Repair newbie on November 05, 2017, 07:47:24 am
I have a craftsman 42cc running a zama carb. When I got it for 20 bucks guy said he replaced the primer bulb and plug and air filter and would not. I have cleaned carb twice fresh fuel and no luck. Now keep in mind I am new to repair work on saws and I am very hard headed. The only thing I have not cleaned in carb is the Welch plug. The saw is flooding something horrible a lot of gas coming out muffler. Please help I know the new carbs are not expensive but I just don't want to buy until I have exhausted every possible thing. I am going to check metering height later today

Is this the OE poulan or newer strato one?

Also where do you have the fuel inlet needle set? Fulcrum height?

To be honest the zama carbs are known to go bad.  Kits wont help. New carbs like $20 TYD.

This is newer strato set up.  See air inlet at top. Older ones wont have that.

If he replaced the primer bulb make sure it is connected correctly  It's really a purge bulb and pulls fuel from and the carb and pumps it into the tank.  Its purpose is to clear air from the lines and carb.

I have a Wildthing and a Woodshark 3314 and was able to make the Wildthing purr like a kitten, and the Woodshark well, I've about spline tooled myself to madness getting the saw to simply idle without stalling.  Have not gotten to it but I am done wasting a second more trying to get it to run correctly.  the 3314, it is going to get a new carb.  Both have strato carbs.
