The happy ending to the story. Took 1.75 turns to get it running ans idleing OK. Grap a hand full of throddle and it fell on it's face but by turning the H a tiny bit at a time it started acting much beter at 2 full turns. Tweeking the L to nearly 2 turns has it runing like a charm now.

This is out of the service manual for the 455
Replacement of the L-needle
1. Take off the cap from the L-needle using a pair
of cutting pliers and unscrew the needle.
2. Screw the new L-needle to the bottom and then
turn it counterclockwise ”D” turns.
455 D = 1 1/2
460 D = 1 1/2
Replacement of the H-needle or complete carburettor
1. Carefully screw the new H-needle to the bottom
and turn it anticlockwise ”A” turns.
455 A = 2 1/2
460 A = 2 1/2
Check your messages for a link to the Husqvarna 455/460 service manual. It has a nice carb section.
