hi i'm a newbie the folk at the forestry forum sent me here
dont know if this is the right place to post this
Any hope for finding a sprocket (.404)for my old Alpina 120? it only does occasional milling, but does it well.
...or maybe there is a hack/mod that can let me use another sprocket? as you can tell i'm no expert and any help would be much appreciated
...i know i should shelve it but it still runs well... other than the sprocket is on its last legs

This guy is selling the style drum that takes the rim. You could run 404 or whatever then to match the bar. Shows he has 9 left. oregon 20091

Hey thanks for the info! and the reply, i've seen that ebay listing but i didn't realize that i could run a .404 rim on that clutch drum!! i thought i would have to get an equivalent spur sprocket (that's how much i know ).That'll keep the old saw running till i cant lift it anymore :)

Ps: sorry i dont know what "IPL" is, but the PDF parts list and diagram looks ok, apart from my saw has 6 clutch fingers that throw out into the drum rather than the 2 that are in the drawings (part 250 in the drawing)

Well i pulled the trigger on one of those clutch drums and a couple of .404, 7 tooth Oregon PowerMate sprocket rims. For the amount of work this saw does it should see me out... if they fit.........Here's hoping....Will keep you informed.

Cool hope it works out.
I pay out of my pocket for picture space so I keep them small KB size. So most dont know how to resize to fit.
I dont do this for making money like FF OPE AS etc. Plus I dont want paying flashing sponsor stuff every where like those other sites have.

Just thought.... if this sprocket thing works out i can use a 3/8" chain and a smaller bar and adjust the milling attachment down to say 28"-36" to mill smaller stuff, it would be a lot easier to handle on my own as well. And just use the .404 and 42" bar when i need to...Probably easier on the old saw as well. Suppose i would just have to watch out that i don't snap the 3/8" chain... Could that happen??...(getting ahead of myself here)

I dont see the problem of milling with 3/8 at all. Most I know use 3/8 and not 404 milling.
@mdavlee . milled maybe he can tell you more.

That clutch drum fitted the clutch, crank and bearing perfectly and also fits the sprocket rims i bought, so my old saw lives again!! and has the option of 3/8" chain/sprocket!! win, win win!! ;D ;D ;D
Just wondering about the clutch springs....they are very tired, and i was wondering if the Stihl 090 springs would fit? they look very similar and the Stihl clutch body is a similar diameter as well, just a few mm difference, and i think that may be down to the clutch linings on the Stihl. The Alpina doesn't have any linings, just metal to metal (still seems to work though). If anyone could tell me the dimensions of the Stihl 090 springs (length and diameter) i would be very grateful also,
