Title: Payments for work done?
Post by: Cut4fun . on April 11, 2012, 04:38:55 pm
Whats some of the different forms of payment you have taken in for your labor work on others equipment?

I usually get beer as payment a lot  ;D. But today I was offered some blueberry flavored moonshine this weekend.  Now if I hadnt signed up for OT  :'(. Hoping they dont call ahead of time now for ot.  ;)

Depends on who it is .I usually don't charge family and close friends anything but the price of the parts .

Tom the trimmer just the parts but on that I have any piece of equipment I need if it's available at the time including an entire tree service crew if need be .

Anybody else about 30 an hour depending on what mood I'm in at the time .That's cheap compaired to shop rates and they don't whine about it .Probabley before too long the weed wackers will show up with funky carbs and stale gas as usual .

I don't advertise because I don't want a hundred junk saws ,weed wackers etc sitting around to resurrect like I'm some kind of a miracle worker .Besides that I'm too grumpy to operate a business .One butt hole dropped of an old Mac PM 610 I resurrected which he sold and gave me a 6 pack for my troubles .I told him to find somebody else next go around . >:(

I've been going at about $20/hour+parts for all small engine work. I will definitely take trades if offered. Pretty steady so far as the shops here are high and won't touch older or lower end stuff. Thankfully local hardware store stocks Oregon fuel line in bulk with all the walmart saws &weedeaters coming my way!

I take anything. My three favorites are cash, lobster and scallops.

I only do cash. I had who used a business check. The first check was good but the 2nd one bounced. I called the customer and left message. He called me back. I told him he 24 hours to bring cash or money order for the bounced check or I was going to get a criminal warrant for bad check. He came and settled up. He said I didnt have to be arrogant. I then told him his checks were no longer accepted and he had to cash from now on. I havent heard or seen that customer for over a year now.

I'm a tad independant plus a tad grumpy .I might not charge a thing or if they pizz me off I just won't work on the stuff .Simple as that .

A couple years ago a guy dropped of a Mac 610 with really not much wrong with it and I kinda felt sorry for him so I got it running for a 12 pack .Come to find out this rascal was buying those saws for a song and selling them at a big flea market near Cincinati for pretty good money .

Well so he gets this idea I work for nothing and drops of another I never got a thing for then a couple more that will sit in my shed til 'ell freezes over beacuse I'll never wrench on anything of his again .

Friends I work for beer still or nothing or sometimes they give me things or do work for me for their labor for my labor.

Hey guy showed me how to drywall my den and lead the way doing it while I was the gofer.  I rebuilt him a partner 500 and gave to him labor for labor.  I furnished the 500 for the rebuild too.

I was happy and he was happy.

New one for me today.  I took a 1/8 of a beef that had been ground by the Amish today on trade for work.

3 guys bought a cow on hoof. 1 guy half and 2 guys a 1/4. Had Amish kill and ground.

I have never had any food or drink for trade on work done.    Now the MS460 I have right now I got in trade for some work.

I do get elk meat every year for helping he BIL on his hunts.
