Carb Fixes and Mods / Carb cleaning liquid.
« Last post by atr on February 15, 2024, 09:10:50 am »
Hi, I have a Sthil MS180 that needs to have to clean it's carb. since carburetor in vehicles these days are not very common, it's hard to find the carburetor cleaning liquid/solution that the carburetor mechanics used to immerse the carburetors in to clean them. I would like to ask if you can suggest how to make a diy carb cleaner based on common materials that are within reach. please be aware that I live outside the USA and commercial solution that may be purchased in the USA aren't available to me. btw - if you can contribute any advice regarding the cleaning of the carb - it will be very helpful.

Last check overs before buttoning up.
Glad I did. While going through things had some kind of nylon plastic crap all wrapped at oil pump area. Glad noticed that as it will bind pump and take out gear when gets in bind.

Poulan 2175 36cc. 1999 type 2.

Stihl 63PS on it for test cutting later.

Lines and carb kit too.

Loaner saw, root cutter, or sell to local for trimming someday.

Still the wild thing bar and crap chain but set that chain aside.

She lives. I picked up last year as non runner for 5.
I was curious if it was 36cc for real and did bore stroke back then. This one was 36cc 1-5 are.
Got more in carb kit and echo oem lines.
Drilled the tank for 3x5 too.

These saws use trimmer line size fuel lines. Like . .080x.140
I drill the tank hole bigger to squeeze bigger lines like the others on the saw. 3mmx5mm 3/32x 3/16
Did the 295 same way.

As I set here cussing this 36cc wild thing I am working on at bench 1. I look up and could almost hear them laughing.

Wow what a nice looking poulan 4000 full wrap.

Was talking about the full wrap handle for the poulan 3400 - 4000 series not long ago. Like I said then I only seen one in pic.
Owner of this 4000 full wrap might even be here in this group.  Thanks for sharing the pics. Will be saving in couple places.

SawSalvage.co is the 4000 aftermarket topend deal dead in water now?

Wasn't happy with some things, they done have imperial tooling, too many tweaks made, wrist pins not tight enough, had to change intake/muffler bolts, order qty on cylinder was 1000, piston qty 2000, but bore changed slightly to meet metric, so pistons incompatible with OEM cylinders. Too many caveats.
