how dirty is it? when was the last time you pulled covers off and cleaned it out?
how's the tune on it? is it running to lean?
what muffler does it have? square outlet on the clutch side or is it the 'louvered' front cover? louvered cover has a screen behind it that may be getting plugged.
what fuel, oil and mixture are you using?
any fins left on the flywheel?
when I grow up, i wanna be an adult.

I clean my saw after every use I pull all the covers off and hit it with an air hose.I clean all the fins on the motor, I clean air filter after every use, I just rebuilt the carb replaced all the fuel hoses and I have cleaned the vent valve for the gas tank, I redid the coil gap and cleaned all the fins on flywheel. I'm running a fifty to one per one gallon with a sthil 2 cycle oil and 85 octain. It is tuned perfect I think lol it has never run this good but it will only run for five minutes and won't run for about half hour or hour depending on how fast it will cool down. But it runs great otherwise. I have been picking the small engine mechanics heads for two weeks now and I think they are sick of seeing me and not being able to help. And I have changed the fuel filter. I keep up on my saw because it has outlasted 6 Huskavarna 455ranchers in 3 years.

Are you saying it is running good for 5mins or so and then shuts off?  Cool down and then starts back up in a hour or so?

I dont know your saw at all, but sounds like coil or condenser going out if so. Had a 031 do this. It would go close to 30mins though.

That is what I am saying since I've done all the work on it last weekend it had ran like it was brand new for five maybe ten minutes then starts to spudder and if you feather the triger a little you might get it to stay running but not for a minute or two then she off and can't getit started till it cools off. It also gets hot up on the motor cover and you can feel the heat on your hand even with gloves on. I don't get it.

Have you always ran 85 octane?  Low octane will create more heat....

What type of tank vent is it?  Some, especially the hose with a threaded screw tend to get worse with age and allow less venting. Adam

As mentioned earlier, a plugged exhaust screen will create similar issue...

I have checked the screen in the exhaust and it is clean. Yes I have always ran 85 octain in it an never had this problem. The vent for the fuel tank is threaded and looks like a nipple like on the carb its self. The vent for gas has a little ball in it and it moves freely I have cleaned it several times. I did not know about the octain. Not one of the mechanics iv talked to have said anything about running 89 octain.

To be exact the vent on a 49sp is steal and almost an inch tall from the bottom of the screw to the top of the nipple where you connect the fuel tube to it and at the end of that hose is a vent that I just purchased Thursday of last week and had it checked Friday cause I still had fuel comming out of the gas tank vent when the saw is running. The mechanic I took it to said the vent was working properly. I never understand why the technical stuff is always for me but it takes talking to 20 to 50 people to get the problem fixed. So please if you read this an you have a slit inkling about what it could be please don't be afraid to post it even if you could be right or wrong. Please
