Crosscut Set
« on: February 28, 2016, 08:31:30 am »
Been searching and trying to find a cross cut set for setting the kerf etc on a crosscut saw. Dad was telling me how they did it growing up. But the tool my grandpa used came up missing after he passed.

Dad said my grandpa could sharpen a crosscut to make her sing good while cutting. Was good hearing some new old stories.

My dad's father could really sharpen hand saws and he fixed up my dad's cross cut saws too. The cross cuts were as fast as a chainsaw back in the 50's. He lived with us and was retired. He sharpened all my mother's table knives one day and that caused a big ruckus with my mother. He was one that ate off his table knife and only used the fork to push the food onto his knife??? I didn't think too much of him sharpening the table knives being as I was a little kid but in recent years, I've come across people that do that on You Tube.

You can still find saw sets on eBay some and a flee markets and estate sales. The link has some pics and blue prints to make some of your own tools.

Here is a bunch of videos from an old forest service guy. I think they are very well done kind of long but a great reference.

Dad wants to get the crosscut going again for his grand kids. My son and my bro's son so the info can be handed down another generation.

I have my grandfather's around here somewhere.

You may not need to set the tooth offset?

Just sharpen the teeth
