Lucky free Mini-Mac (not free anymore)
« on: March 13, 2017, 09:27:44 am »
Well I read somewhere the best thing to to with a mini-mac is find a wide open area, look for the wood line and chuck it far as you can. On the other hand I've seen some sold comments. Well I was at the dump the other day and long and behold this Mini-Mac 25 looking pretty darn sweet was sitting there in the scrap pile 😛 . Pulled the cord once and it felt good. So I got back to the garage pulled it apart and cleaned it up a little. As I pulled it over I could hear some bypass at the spark plug so I dogged it down tighter it stopped hissing, reassembled it, fueled it up and she fired. After a little tuning she runs really great!! Short term verdict, after cutting a couple branches I think it's a great little saw and easy to work on, I especially like the manual oiler for when you want some extra.

Most mini macs are like a turtle in a shell .To do much of anything you have to get it out of it's shell .Two types, those that run good and those that don't run at all,no middle ground .

I'm not familiar with these, it seemed extremely easy to disassemble and reassemble contrary to what others seem to experience. I've runs some good powerful saws, I was truly surprised by the output of this little engine. On that note this is the first climbing saw I've ever used so.... Anyways this must be a good one.

The later 130 and 140 model mini Macs that had an anti vib suspension system were not too bad  to work on .The 110 and 120's were a gigantic pain in the buttocks to do anything on .

I don't know how many of those things I have, maybe half a dozen .I never paid a dime for the whole lot,all freebies .One had the original McCulloch chain on it that had never been filed  .I assume it died on the shelf from inactivity. Many did .Trim a tree ,let them sit forever, won't start  buy another one

I chanced  upon a whole box of new chain loops on flea bay for cheap with a 10 second to go snipe bid .I only bought it for a couple of Homelite branded 1/2" chain .In that mess was a bunch of NOS 14"  loops for Mini Macs .
