McCulloch BP-1 Chainsaws
« Reply #12 on: April 13, 2016, 12:45:00 pm »
New to the forum, I have had this McCulloch BP-1 chainsaw and parts power head for a while now that I inherited from a neighbor about 15 years ago.  There is very little to go on so I never did tear into for fear of ruining something, or getting things torn down then losing parts along the way.  So I am getting to a point of where I need to decide:

1. Attempt to fix them up into one good saw that is a runner.
2. Leave it alone for another 15 years in my garage.
3. Move them along to a worthy BP-1 enthusiast.

These are previously undocumented "barn find" artifacts that to my knowledge nobody else has seen, at least on the internet.

I've seen three but nary a one ran. I've got the IPL and trouble shooting on micro film but have no way to put it in a usable format .About the only two that might are Mc Bob and possibly Larry Steiner .

Attic Find - McCulloch BP-1
« Reply #17 on: August 24, 2021, 03:50:54 pm »
In cleaning out my parents attic after my mom passed we came across some old saws.  None of my family wanted them, so they came home with the packrat who has the most space at home (me).

One of the saws is an older Homelite Super XL and the second is a McCulloch BP1.  The Homelite seems to be relatively common (for an older saw), but the BP 1 seems to be fairly uncommon.  Both look to be nearly complete.

I found this page (http://acresinternet.com/cscc.nsf/ed1d619968136da688256af40002b8f7/378fb4451b521bbb88256b6100149cd3?OpenDocument) that gives a brief history and specs on the BP-1, and few posts (here and elsewhere) suggesting it is quite collectible but not much else.  It is missing the points cover but everything else seems to be there.  I (like a dummy) pulled the cord and the engine turned over nicely, but the cord didn't retract.  I'm hesitant to dig into it myself, and even more fearful to take it to a shop that has likely never seen one of these before.  Any suggestions on where I could go to get this working or am I better off selling this for parts on ebay?
