Ha Briggs starters are not the most robustly made electrical devices in the world .After a number of years the bushings go out and they run so hot it can melt the brush holders .

Being a tight wad I've actually cut over sized brass bushing for  them --it worked .In the mean time though I've amassed about a two gallon bucket full of dead ones I can't seem to part with .Danged perminant magnet pole pieces crack out and a number of things .

A little tip for those who don't know .You might think you have a bad coil but often times on a dragging starter they won't fire unless the cranking speed is at least 400 RPM .I've got a coffee can full of old coils I thought were bad which aren't .They say an education comes with a price ,how true .
