Just wondering.

On 3 foot tall johnson grass areas would a metal blade brush cutter attachment work better then the trimmer line? Pro's Cons ?

Just thinking things out for a future purchase if needed.

i like those 'tri-blades" for tall grass and the thinner weed stocks. but you need to keep the rpm's up otherwise it 'clogs' and get's catchy. great for ditches. getting rid of milk weed and wild parsnip.

Thanks for info BB.  You think a 25cc to 30cc  will pull a metal tri blade or do I need more cc?

Well the little mac is up and running.

Trying out a aftermarket carb kit for the first time. Even has made in china on it.

The saw blades do good on multi-flora rose stems. I have one on a straight shaft Mac.

The metal blades act a little different on the trimmer because of their weight and the flywheel action. Slow to get up to speed and then they coast.

Te slack in the drive system will cause surges.

i use mine on an old husqvarna 160? i can't remember, it's only about 30-32cc. one of their smaller straight shaft trimmers that they said you can use a blade on. yes they do act different :) slightly slow to spool up, but the little husky pulls it once it's there. just gotta keep the revs up and it's fine.

edit: it's a husky 132r. :)

The key word with the blade cutters is "STRAIGHT SHAFT"

There's a main reason for this in that there is a gear reduction in the head.

I have a contraption on my 28 cc Echo that uses either three nylon blades or three metal tipped blades . I works pretty well ,much better than nylon line .

The nylon spool thing came apart on me twice and shot down the driveway heading north  at about 100 miles per hour .It might have made to lake Erie for all I know .Got tired of fooling with it .

I have two Echo straight shaft whackers. One is a 21 and the other is a 24. One is about as good as the other.

I have a Echo 22 rotor tiller and a 24 blower too.  I like the Echo's I have.

I have a Stihl 55 straight shaft and a 45 curved shaft too. They are 27cc

My wifes cousin had one of the most powerfull weed wackers I've ever seen and it was a McCulloch .I can't remember the exact displacement but it had to be over 40 cc . I rebuilt the carb but I think with the right cutting attachment that thing could have cut a tree down .Pot licker was heavy too .

New one for me. Wife mowing and said the blades just shut off.

Electric PTO.   Checked power to switch, then to next connection and then to pto. Nothing to pto from last hot connection. Pulled deck and pto off. Some how the clutch bolt in crank had backed out some and allowed the clutch to turn and 1 of the 2 wires inside the shielded sheath got cut into.
Cut sheath off, used but-connector and taped it all back up. Tested off 1st and clutch engaged.  Installed and back to mowing.
