Could the bar profile on the mount side create a pinching isssue? I tried a taller bar (tail cut down) on mine and it didn't pinch.

When I mount the bar I hold the tip up and tighten adjuster to take chain slack up.   I dont think owner of this saw did this and maybe angle allowed to pinch at rear.

Works fine for me right now.

Thanks for the lead to the trilink chain info Jim.   Never saw a 2 being used for 050 chain before. Why I measured the chain DL's.

He picked it up today and was happy to know the lost plate wasnt needed.

I also told him about possibility pinchin the bar mount area when he is setting b+c up himself.   Like Adam has seen.

I know other folks have had this happen as I just sent my last 2 outer bar plates out.

Friend loaned his 500 out to a 21 year old know it all (by friends description) that ran the saw so long the chain had got real loose and came off.  The guy took apart to try and put chain on. Somewhere in all of this the outer bar plate got lost in the field cutting area.

Guy brought in a Partner 500 today that has lost the outer bar plate between clutch cover and bar. Now when he tightens the cover down it somehow is stopping chain from moving.  I never seen this on all the partner 500 5000 jonsered 490 590 poulan 325 I have owned. Personally I used to ditch the outer bar plates myself.

Will dig in later.

I guess it could happen if regular .325 .050 chain is used on a narrow kerf bar. That is known to happen on many saw models.

Another partner 500 came in. This one had year old or older gas I was told and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in awhile.

Mesh filter did its job and no fines etc appear to have gotten by.
