I don't come here very often but I wanted to say thank you to "Cut For Fun".
I have a 5000 that is giving me fits lately and I think? it may be a seal. No matter how often I set the idle after a few minutes it is right back to a very high idle. The chain spinning very fast so it could be a clutch too. When I hold it upright( in the normal cutting position) it revs very high , but if I turn it on it's side ( PTO) down towards the ground the high rev goes away. In fact if I left it that way without blipping the throttle I think it would stall out.
Well anyway I wanted to buy new seals and a new clutch but I could not find what I needed,.. then through googling ( clutches that will fit my 500 or 5000) I ended up finding this old thread.
C.F.F had named several different part numbers that helped me find some parts I ordered 6 seals and one clutch last evening from HLSupplies . Thanks again you have always been a wealth of help to me and I am sure many others. Jeff

I just came out of the woods and checked the mail. I now have 6 count em 6 new crank seals and a new clutch. They are Hyway brand from hlsupply. Now I need a new bar,.. today I was finishing up my thinning for this year in my rock maple grove and had to drop a poplar. It / I managed to get my bar pinched then before I could do anything about it the tree slid off the stump and bent/ twisted the bar right at the replaceable tip so it screwed them both I think. I will have you a shop day tomorrow and look at it. I swear you cannot have enough replacement parts around. I have been very lucky though I have never ruined a bar in all my years and this one was a Forrester so it was not too expensive anyway. I have heard nothing good about Forrester bars but for the money they have been ok to me.

Let us know how those aftermarket seals hold up.  Never ordered seals from HL. Only used oem in partner saws.

I got them put in and the new clutch put on now I just need to have time to run it some. When removing the seals I noticed that the Flywheel side seal was not in straight. One side was higher than the other by about 1/16 to an 1/8", don't know if that may have caused the fast idle issue or not.
