Very cool gas oil calculator.

Gas Oil Mixture Ratio Calculator
This calculator requires the use of Javascript enabled and capable browsers. There are two calculators here, one for US values and one for metric values. This calculation determines the exact quantity of oil required for a given ratio of gas and oil suggested by the manufacturer of the 2 cycle engine. That calculated number is determined from the amount of gas available for the mixture. That amount is usually an added number, such as 4 gallons, 5 gallons, 10.2 gallons or similar. Enter the number of US gallons of gas added to the tank; the default is 5 gallons. Then, enter the mixture ratio of gas to oil. Most tool, transportation and recreational requirements, such as golf carts, motorcycles, snowmobiles, blowers, chainsaws, tillers, rotary plows, utility tractors, commercial two cycle carts, garden tools, motor scooters, motor skates, some generators and other two cycle engines are in the range of 20:1 to 80:1, gas to oil. Many motorcycles are 32:1, others are 40:1 and still others are 50:1. If you are uncertain, consult your owners manual. Do NOT add oil to the fuel of 4 cycle engines. Enter the ratio value or accept the default.

Click on the Calculate button to find out how many US ounces of specified two cycle oil (or whatever the oil type requirement is for your engine) are required. (Calculations in either calculator will also supply the appropriate converted values for the other.) For 5 gallons of gas, with a 32:1 ratio, the amount of oil required is 20 US ounces (156.25 ml), 4 ounces per gallon of gas (31.25 ml per liter). Experts agree that it is better to err toward the side of too much oil, rather than not enough. Typical break in period ratios are about twice the normal; 32:1 is generally 16:1 during break in. We suggest following the manufacturers guidelines but that is your decision. See our calculator for marine 2 cycle use. Here is some additional oil information that is pretty slick!

Much prefer the first calculator

The reason for the 2nd one I was looking for some way to get odd amounts and mix ratios.  The 1st one was for normal stuff.    Say like 1.8 x1 x 5 etc.

Story line. Last year before heavy winter.  I fixed a 036 recoil pulley and on/off switch on friends saw.  I tuned his carb to the mix in it.

He told me early this week he was going to use the saw trimming on a rental property.  I told him make sure to dump his mix and get some fresh.
He looked at me and said why. I been using Super Tech and guessing 50:1.  I ask how old is your mix and he stated at least 2 years old.  I told him if he liked his saw, he might want to get some fresh mix.

So he ends up buying the Echo oil synthetic which I suggested being good feedback from others here.  He went with 89 octane or above as I suggested.  I told him to at least go 40:1 mix that was shown on the bottle.  3.2oz to 1 gal.

Well he comes to work and was not happy with me and stated. I did everything you said and every time I headed up the ladder the saw stalled and wouldnt idle.  So he got to try out the new recoil pulley over and over.  His last words to me was I'm NOT HAPPY.

Guess what I forgot to mention and I ask later in the day. I took it for granted he would do this. ;)

I tried not to laugh in front of him. I was able to hold off till me and another guy that I work on saws for, walked away to jobs.  I told the other guy I know what it is and will tell him later.  We both was laughing.

He just left.  I tried telling him over the phone how to do adjustment to it.  He got it to where it wouldnt start at all.  Started fresh with all adjustments and he left happy.

Told him, me and another guy had got a good laugh at his he wasnt happy comment earlier.

Really liking this mix calculator   http://www.onlineconversion.com/automotive_gasoilmixture.htm

This way when oil is in those small bottles with 2.6 etc I can convert the amount of gas to bring them to 40:1 45:1 etc.
