New poulan 2900
« on: August 27, 2015, 04:09:54 pm »
I have this problem, what to do with a new 2900.
I bought it NIB a couple of years ago, the box was pretty battered as these haven't been made in how many years?
The tanks were perfectly clean, never been fueled & oiled.
I put it together and fired er up, it runs very well and has 10 thou. less squish and 10 lbs. more comp. than my other one which I really like cutting with, I haven't put the new one in wood yet so what do I do with it put on the shelf and keep it new or start using it?, I sure don't need it.

Heck I would use it.   It never hurts to have more then one.   I never go out cutting wood without at least two saws.

Yep.  I'd use it.  That model isn't likely to be a big time collectable.  Good to have more than one of a model that you use regularly anyways...

I agree, run it as they're not collector saws.  Keep the hardware tight lest it vibrate itself apart - they seem to have a problem with that.

I recently bought the little rubber "isolator" that goes under the carb somehow on the later versions of my 2775 as the carb assembly clearly needed some support.  I could not figure out where it was supposed to be installed, so I wedged it between the bottom of the air filter mount and the case.  It actually helps a lot!  Now if I run it without the cover the carb doesn't vibrate all over.

Well here's what I did, I bought a like new craftsman top handle version of the poulan 2300, in fact the chain had never been filed and it wasn't dull, it had a 16" bar 3/8lp.
I put a new 14" on it (couldn't find a 12") and had my dealer spin up a loop of stihl ps for it, ( that is some cuttin chain).
I pulled the 20" off the 2900 and put on the 16" from the craftsman then got a sprocket and bearing for a 41 husky and another loop of stihl ps 3/8lp and put it together, it all runs fine but I am all out of log to cut on, will get out of the city next week to do some cuttin.

I got a GB 12" 3/8LP and a GB 20" in 3/8LP to put on my 295. If I ever get around to making the conversion.

You probably know this already but be aware that the bearing in the 2900 drum will not fit in the drum for the 36- 41 husky, the shaft size is the same but the od of the bearing is 1.5 m/m bigger.

I like the 20" 0.325" on my 2775, but it is pretty heavily ported.  I run 20BPX semi chisel.

If I was to change it I'd go with one of the GB lo pro bars with 68DL - I have one on my majorly modified 42cc Craftsman/Poulan and it works very well.  It's really a full 19", exactly an inch shorter than the bar on my 2775.  Still, I have a couple of bars and chains in 0.325" so I don't think I will change.
