I am still scratching my head over this.  To start with I just realized that my carb is different. One fuel connection on each side of the carb.

It would seem to make sense to me to have the breather/return line go to the highest part of the fuel tank, which would be A rather than B.  I did drill A out so I could use my fuel line puller, which wouldn't go through the original hole, even without the line attached.
I still haven't committed to which line gets the filter. I would have thought that the return line should end just inside the tank.  On my saw both line would reach the bottom of the tank?

The strato carb and the WT 2375 type carb aka different one have line C on the left side of carb.  Only difference from the pic.

Line B just goes in to the nipple connection no further.

Line A has filter and goes to bottom with turn

I'm guessing the the 'nipple' is on line B just inside the tank.  I found one on my saw, which also had a length of line attached.  The filter had come off so it was hard to figure which line it was on.
Thanks for the help.

Yep just inside the tank nipple is line B where it stops.

Is there anyway of stopping these bigbox store Poulans from dripping oil after use?  I've tried burping the oil tank but doesn't seem to have much effect.

Thanks,

Lee

By the way the P3314 (42cc) Stratos carbed saw runs really well. Previous version that crossed my path always seemed gutless.

The earlier non-strato engines run quite well too.  There were changes to the porting and combustion chamber size over the years, with the final non-strato engines being kinda lame and having a very restrictive cat muffler.

These saws are generous bar oilers. After shut down,  it is the bar that is draining down. I usually park the saw with the clutch area on a rag.
Line A has the filter and they use a small line filter.
Line B is the primer bulb return (larger line) to the tank and is retained by a tubing coupler inserted in the line than pulled back up to the tanks wall.
There are two kinds of primer bulb fittings
1: two small lines....2: one small line and one thick line.
