Hate chasing issues that come back to the carb. Seems I check everything it acts like till only carb left.
But least you found it.

You were saying earlier the metal plate that goes around boot that carb bolts tighten into on yours was bending?  Hadnt seen that happen. But know now to watch for it.  8)

I think the plastic was warped some and was contributing to that.    I took a good look at it today and it is nice and flat now.

Yes I have both rings on the intake boot and the third one which is where the carb screws into.     The plastic is sandwiched in between.

Just saving some pics of rupedoggy ole saws  Poulan 475 with 505 cylinder raced in 5ci out west. Now being raced in Ohio by new owner.

rupedoggy = Next is the Poulan pro on the 475 chassis. It has the 505 cylinder and model HD bored to the max. This is gas fired and was my 5 cubic inch racer.

Alright the 505 with the Stihl piston is up and running.

Did some testing today and had a few surprises.

The compression is about the same as before with the OEM piston.

The RPM's have increased.   I am now taching 14,200 and still 4 stroking good.

The RPM's in the cut using a piece of Elm at 16" long and was noodling.   11,800 to 12,000.

The saw idles and run good and oiler is working good.

I am pretty happy with the conversion and I think it will only get better.

Guessing the psi was the same due to new piston kit and new rings not seated yet.

You said you put the base gasket in with the 066 piston right.  On the oem piston you didnt run the gasket?
That would also made up for the taller 066 piston that would have gave more psi without gasket too.  Just trying to figure it out.

Anyhow got to do any comparisons yet.  Sounds like the modded one is running good.

Yes with the 066 piston it has a base gasket and when running the stock 505 piston I no base gasket.
I think the reason for no change in compression has to be rings not seated in yet, plus I checked it when it was cold.   I bet if I run it some and let it cool just a little the compression will show higher.   The compression sure feels higher and it is running strong in the cut.

Also I think I am going to tune it for a higher RPM because it is still 4 stroking really good, and is a lot better than before.

I have not been to the mountains yet for some test wood.   But I will, I need to get about 2.5 cord still.

Just sharing some info.  Was told that a exact copy aftermarket 505 2083 54mm piston should be for sale in a few weeks. Instead of the aftermarket 54mm one that looks just like a 066 piston.

More info = The piston mold cost me a $1,000 to have made, I can have any oem piston made, just need to turn numbers to pay for tooling
Check back in about 2 weeks for a update on when they will be here
