Mini GTG for 3ci saw and chain comparisons
« on: April 15, 2012, 06:50:50 pm »
Today we got together to test some 325 chain with 7T  and some 3/8 chain with 7T same saws. I forgot to test 8T 325 on some saws and for got to try 325 on some ported saws. But I think what I seen with 325 3/8 comparison would have been the same. Same  chain was run and was new out of box chain.

Here is some of the saws ran in 12" hardwood today. Thinking wood was cherry or hard maple.

stock husky 346xp 50cc,  325 7T  10.0 10.4,   3/8 7T  5.63  5.62

stock dolmar 5105 with 5100 muffler,   3/8 7T  5.59  5.50

ported 346 45cc #2 346 carb, 3/8 7T  4.75  5.22

stock partner 5000 , 3/8 7T 5.47 5.84

ported redmax 5000, 3/8 7T  3.68  3.97

ported 346 45cc #1 357 carb,   3/8 7T  3.66  3.78

ported 026 with stock 026  carb with H L, 325 7T 6.97 (7.94 hit knot), 325 8T 8.65 8.61,  3/8 7T 7.63  7.69

stock 357xp, 3/8 7T  4.29  4.34

I just love 3/8 on the saws when they have the guts to pull it.  ;D

Thanks for putting up the times. I like that the stock Partner 5000+ was right there with the stock 346 and 5105. 8)

Say that 034/036 originally had .325 on it when it was still a stock 034 .After the rework it got 3/8" and the speed increase was really dramatic .The .325 stuff ended up on an 028 which is in my shed .

Bill I normally just run 16" on my 0-53cc sized saws.  What-cha up to wanting to run 20-24's.

Bushweasel = Jason from Idaho ran a self ported 45cc (I think it was 45cc pretty sure) with 24" and 3/8 buried in cottonwood at my last gtg. There was a video somewhere at one time. So dont know if it is still out there or not to see.

original little carb and I had the heat shield on the front of muffler.  I had all the saws set at a rich working type rpm. Turn that redmax up and remove the heat shield she runs even better.

Then again so does the 45cc 346 if I turn it up for cookie cutting.

I guess the question is........"Does it run $300.00 better?"
The 5000 is an older saw that can be bought pretty cheap and the 346 has to work its azz off to stay ahead of it!
A real slick 5000 or 5000+ is one of the best values in a saw around.
