Did you find out what burned up the saw to begin with???

Either way, I would suggest going through the fuel system and putting in a new carb kit, get rid of that old leaky needle.........Check that
fuel line for gumminess too.

Fuel line is fine. No signs of gumminess or leaks. I got new Tillotson carb kit(RK-32HK) for it to rebuild kit when needed. All I know is it was a bad piston and rings. Replaced it and it started right up.

Well, the issue that you are describing may very well be a leaky carb needle letting fuel leak in while sitting, causing the hard to pull issue.

Otherwise, it is real wise to find out what made the old piston/cyl. to go bad!!!!!  Unless you like replacing expensive parts and wasting lots of cash.

Since carb rebuilds are like changing filters/ etc...., it is always a good idea to go into a carb and renew the rubber parts, look at all of the crud clogging the carb, and finding out why the saw burned down to begin with.......

The hard pull was caused by the recoil. It was probably old gas or gas not mixed right for the reason why the piston went bad. If it aint broke then dont fix it.

I've got an 034 super which basically is an 036 sitting in the garage with a scalded piston .I really think what cooked it was it choked itself on  a baffled muffler and running on 50 to one mix .Might have even been that  100 to 1 stuff .

When I find the time to rebuild it and add some soup obviously I'll replace the seals .

Fact I also have an 024 that  know for a fact got slightly cooked on it's own exhaust .All I did to that 50 dollar special was hog out the muff and give it some more fuel and never even touched the rest of it .Little rascal runs real good for a tiny little saw .

Yeah, it's not like the diaphragm gets stiff and affects how the inlet needle moves.
Wait a minute, isn't the inlet needle the valve that controls how much or little fuel gets into the engine?
Nah! that can't be the problem!

I took apart the recoil. Cleaned the housing pulley and spring. Pulley has about 16th of a inch wobble to it. Spring was really dirty. Also found that when I cut the rope it didnt retract around the pulley like the others I replaced.

Recoil issue fixed. Didnt have the the rope wound tight enough around the starter pulley.
