Molten piston on ms241-c
« on: July 05, 2016, 03:28:55 pm »
My MS241-C finally died in my hands while notching logs. 3 firewood shelters, 1 summer cottage, 3 lean-to´s, 1 log sauna and about 6 repairs of log buildings. I have already ordered new ms241, but id like to resurrect my old one as secondary notching saw. New one cost about 600€. Original Stihl spares, for my old one  costs 300€ in lisenced Stihl dealership. I ordered aftermarket piston (27€) for my saw and cleaned the aluminum residue from cylinder with 320 grit sandpaper. I`m hoping to get 2 fully operating saws for my log hobbies. Old one got too hot because cool air intake sucked my shirt against the grid.

I was wondering has anyone sanded down the cylinder after this kind of malfunction?

I've done a bunch. Just make sure there's no plating missing on the edge of a port.

Piston left some **** on the exhaust port side of the cylinder, but there was no flaking of plating near the aluminum residue. I guess i manage to fix this mess up. Well at least if i recall all the little parts placements.
