046/460 front muffler cover mod
« on: February 15, 2016, 11:08:58 pm »
Just playing around trying out some other ways to do a dual port muffler. Screen and cover came from an 017 parts saw I have laying around. Screen part number 1130 141 9000 , deflector part number 1130 145 2900 , screw part number 9099 021 0810. Let me know what you all think. Next set is to braze a couple of holes closed in the back half of the muffler from pulling out the baffle. Then get some paint on it.

Not sure if the screen will fall out from use but time will tell.

Here is how I did my dual port cover for the 084.   Didnt like cutting up the very pricey back halves of the muffler.

Figured they got it right with the DP on the 066 and 046, so I went with that idea.

Stihl 084 DP Caveman muffler mod.

From way back when. Screen was under there if you wanted to run one.

Red97 deflector. I made it where I could run screen in it.

i have used the husky deflectors before. but for me they always seem to get dented in when you are dogged in a log. Have a deflector mounted on the front of  a 346xp muffler that is all mangled. But i like what you all have done.

Mike, How much do those deflectors go for from RED97? Is he a member here?

The husky mufflers are closer to the wood. I don't know if he's a member. I want to say $5-6 each. It's well worth it over making my own.

The Husqvarna deflectors stay on better to weld them on. They come off with sheet metal screws and pop rivets.

Keep in mind that brazing will not stick to oxide or cad plating.

I started welding all of mine on so I don't have to worry about screws and bolts falling out.
