Make sure there are no bare spots in you ignition lead,may be it is grounding out once you have it hooked back up to the plug. Just a thought as you said you have great spark but maybe when it is all put together it may be grounding. Could be a bad air leak some where as well. If you are running the poly flywheel the coil you should be using is part number 1122 400 1314 or 0000 400 1305 or 0000 400 1303 the last 2 numbers are the prior numbers from the first one. Most of the coils I have seen have the part number embossed in them.
