The original posted 026 red switch pic in this thread was a metal tag with rivets  that was for sale while I was traveling during Thanksgiving. Asking price was $200.

Interesting.
I was a technical services manager for Stihl Canada in 1989, even had meetings with Hans Peter Stihl.
I never heard of the legend of the "extra performance " flagged with a red colored master control switch. :D

LOL.  It's probably more a case of them using red switches during the time frame that the 'best' (meaning less EPA detuned) versions of these saws were being built.  The change to black plastic switches may have come around the same time as the other changes....

Well EPA was no concern for chainsaws back in the 1980-'90s unless you're talking about California. I've made a living running Stihl saws for 28 years and never owned a red switched one.  My 1992 066 Mag with dual muffler outlets had lots of balls with it's black master control switch :D
I do recall some red ones though and if my memory serves me correctly they were on "Wood Boss" units here in Canada.

If you notice it was said there was no differences noted in old flat top 066 saws  with red or black switches.   ;) :D

I guess I did have a red switched 066. Never noticed.  Saw was already ported and shaved fly by the time I got it in trade.
Was ported by Ricky Hennessy from TN.
