I got some problems. Had to drive the piston out of the cylinder.

Was new used or a rebuilt gone bad?

I've had a couple of saws come through here that had similar failures. They are a real bearcat to get apart. I've never had one where this happened with factory installed snap rings. So far, the only ones I've seen have been after someone had replaced the piston. I don't know if it was caused by improper installation or aftermarket snap rings.

jmester:
It is the original oem piston and cylinder. I have seen the aftermarket circlips fail as well. Never have I seen an oem one fail. But there is a first for everything. The pto side of the pin boss is pretty hammered up were the clip goes. Not sure how much is from the clip coming out or just some bad casting/machining.

Rebuilt or was it untouched since new?
