In fact most likely a slight decrease with new rings until they get seated in .

I realise that I may end up where I started, but for me I need to try these things, to fully understand what is going on.

I will measure rings and compression, and let you know how I get on, ever hopeful.

Fix it until it's broken?

150-160 psi is the standard reading for these when broken in at new saw condition.

I know what you are saying, but I have an older 020 av super with just over 170PSI compression.

It is a learning process for me, I will learn something I hope, it could be "don't try and mend it if it aint broken".

But if I wanted a perfect saw I could always buy a new one, the fun for me is working out "how to and if you can" mend old ones.

Waiting for mail man, will post results.

I know what you are saying, but I have an older 020 av super with just over 170PSI compression.

That is likely due to slight carbon build up on the dome of the piston and combustion chamber after 25yrs of use with dino oils. Sorry to say, but I think you wasted a pretty penny on new piston and rings for no reason.

When you were adjusting the idle screw, did you attempt to richen the low speed jet at all?

A good way to check for ring wear is to measure the ring end gap. In other words, take the ring (s) off the piston and put them in the cylinder. Use the piston to push them down into the bore, this will keep them running "true" (perpendicular) with the cylinder wall. Now measure the ring gap with a set of feeler gauges.
Rule of thumb =  0.004+/- per inch of bore

The 020T is $250 to $350 depending on how it looks or the condition.

200t's run from $250 - $450 depending on condition and unused can be $6-700

I was looking on Ebay at the completed listings.

They are basically the same saw as most people already know .Some of the 020T's had non ajustable high speed jet carbs on them much many peoples disliking .

Now then last year sometime I repaired one for my bud the tree trimmer that was an oil leaker .Landed a set of cases on the cheap and changed the entire guts of the engine .That thing ran excellant in spite of the fixed jet carb .It was a tad rich but never the less cut as good as any stock 020T I've ever had my hot little hands on .
