X-27 wood handle fit.
« on: December 18, 2021, 11:57:40 am »
So this is the welding forum I thought I would post one of my recent projects.
This is a Fiskars X-27 axe head that the handle broke on and a fellow forum member sent it to me.

I have put it through some testing including driving some steel splitting wedges through some rounds.   It has held up very well and the head has had no distortion and the handle has not moved or loosened up at all.   So far so good.

I cut the center out of the axe head and welded in some flat pieces of metal on the sides to create an opening in the middle for a wood handle.

Did some splitting yesterday with it and the handle is still rock solid.  Works very well with the handle being 29 inches as oppose to 36 inches.

Modified the axe head holder.    Now the edge is protected.

Very cool your able to think out of the box and do that.  You guys that can weld sure have the advantage in fixes.

Do have a question. What happened to the fiber handle?  Heard of a few break in past.

There is a fellow on a different site who has broke the handle on two of these now.   He sent this one to me.    You can see the axe head had
been laying around for a while and was starting to rust.

Just an update.  Put a leather guard on the handle made from an old belt.   Does a good job.
