In my opinion square ground is not what the average chainsaw user needs .The PNW bunch use it for professional use and as rule grind it and carry spare loops with them .

No doubt it's faster but to hand file say a 20" loop would take me the best part of an hour whereas I can touch up the same loop of round chisel in about 5 or so minutes .Bearing in mind of course the crew on the left coast have been around this stuff for years while we in the heart land have not .

I went and ask a bunch of logger friends what chain to use and they told me Stihl RSLK series

Last year I used about 7 different chains and brands brands cutting fire wood and the best chain for holding a edge was Stihl RSLHK (all the wood I was cutting was clean) on my 3/8's saws IMO

Oh im in the PNW  ;)

I pulled my ATOP square filing guide off the shelf today for some pics.  I found the manual etc too.

Everything I found that goes with it.

To me it's not a fact of getting the angles correct ,that isn't that difficult .What I have an issue with is doing it with any speed .

when i first learned to sharpen round chain, i was all about the correct angles and once i could keep them consistently. then i could work on my speed to get it sharpened fast. i guess i was thinking along the same lines with the square chains as well.

it's the same learning curve for square as it is for round :) I don't do too many square filed chains, can't do them nearly as fast as a round one. but I am getting faster at them when I do decide to do one. it used to take me damn near an hour to do a 64-66dl chain. I can get one done in a little under a half hour now. still not as quick as a roundy, but getting there slowly. :)
when I grow up, i wanna be an adult.

Yeah from looking at the pics it appears they have the wavy edge too.
My family and I are away from home at the moment and will be back home tomorrow  evening. I'll try and take some good photos of my Windsor files and post them here.
I'm trying to post a photo of my Windsor chisel bit files that don't have the wavy edges that todays files have. I'm having a problem shrinking my photos with my new camera. I'll just e-mail it to Cut4Fun and maybe he can post it for me.

Thanks for posting the pic Kevin.
It appears the e-mail deformed the top face of the file, that's not how it looks on my phone's camera.
