Chainsaw Repair

I worked on a brand new Husqvarna 395XP today.   The customer bought it from a well known company and had a Oregon clutch drum and .404 rim put on it.    He brought it in to where I work for warranty work from Husqvarna because it would not start.    After finding out the clutch drum and clutch would not spin free from each other I took it all off and the saw started just fine.    Someone did some weird stuff on this clutch drum and the clutch drum itself does not seem to go on all the way causing the clutch to bind up on it when it was screwed on.

So I looked at the IPL and is shows no rubber seal or washer pressed on that way on the back of the clutch drum.   Mind you now this work was done by a reputable big company and the saw is brand new never been run.

This is a Oregon clutch drum and it seems to be to long where it goes into the oiler and then the clutch itself will bind up on the drum when threading it on.    Anyone ever seen this before with a Oregon clutch drum.   This is some crazy work here that someone did.

Is there a washer under the oiler drive gear?

That is a good question.   I had the worm gear out of it and did not see a washer there.   Something weird like that going on with it though.
Also the worm gear looked like it was in all the way and flush with the oiler like it should be.

Was wanting to see how the end of worm geared was made in IPL. Was thinking somebody rednecked the area there to take up the space.

That pretty much looks like the worm gear that was on the saw.     Unfortunately I may never find out what was wrong because the customer will probably send it back to where in purchased it from.   

The same clutch drum is also used on the 298/1100/2100/2101 and 181/281/288 series saws where the plastic guard and rubber seal are used to seal the pump worm drive from debris. The 394/395 has a different pump and drive gear design that has the debris guard integrated into the worm gear so the extra pieces that come with the clutch drum can be discarded. 

Ok that explains why they are on there.   Someone did not realize on the 395 that you have to eliminate those parts.    Is the worm gear also a different width from the 395XP compared to the others.   It seemed like the clutch drum was jammed up against the worm gear not allowing it to spin free.
