The pot and piston are being replaced anyway so I'm not concerned about those too much. The mechanic has plenty of experience changing crank bearings on stihl abrasive cutters so it's just a case of diagnosis and finding the parts supplier if they aren't too expensive.

So the service kit has arrived and I've been asked to source some starter pawls. I've found a supplier but the prices are cosmic! £5.72 each and £2.50 for each spring. Anyway while I'm there I thought I'd get your view on the drive sprocket to see if it needs replacing?
He's also had the oil pump apart and it was full of old saw dust which seems like a design flaw if the only way to clean it is to remove the clutch etc.

Eh......maybe so.

But..........it's an issue that is often ignored.  I've seen folks put a new P/C on a saw that "was straight gassed" (what many folks MUST be the cause of a roached p/c), only to have the new p/c burn up not long afterwards as they didn't cure the real cause of the original failure (air leak, too lean carburetor adjustment, dull chain, or some combination of those).
