I found for me if just the brake is on when cover is off. To reset I just pull clutch and clutch drum off. Put cover back on saw and reset brake band. Then pull cover back off put  clutch and drum back on.

That would take a little more time but would work even better.

Surely it will work, but my method from 2003 sounds like the fastest one, once you have it figured out.

There are still several roads that lead to Rome though!  ;)
