The first time I saw one with that "skip tooth" chain, I couldn't believe it.

I thought that the Wild Thing would not cut at all. But it did. Rather acceptable in fact.

But the Stihl "PS" chain should really help to wake one up?

Yes the stihl ps chain is far better the the Oregon chain. You will notice a big difference. But that is just my opinion.

i like the vxl but i swear it cuts better when it gets around half tooth life seems like the longer cutters on my saws that are around 30 cc like it better with less tooth ,,,could be all in my head.....been wanting to try the smaller gauge on my lil saws see if that helps....i mean the vxl is fine... i get it pretty cheap.... funny thing is i used to be fine with reg chain till i found chainsaw sites LOL.....

Question was, why did the poulan wild thing begin.

Bob Morrison = The Wild Thing started out originally as an experiment in colors for the Poulan 50th anniversary saw. The colors were borrowed from a Kawasaki motorcycle that was being sold at the time. If it looked cool on a motorcycle, the thought was that it would look cool on a chain saw. It was introduced in 1996 with a forecast of about 5,000 saws and ended up selling 10 times that number. The Wild Thing was nearly identical to the anniversary saw with different graphics. It continued on in a variety of iterations for at least 10 years. I have a 50th anniversary saw still in the box.
