Bump.
Yep I was looking at those nice Honda powered capstan winch , but close to $2000 I find it hard to justify.

I can see big old gear drive saws getting a second life putting them back to work.
Rig up a anchor plate and mount for a capstan drum (from Honda unit) bolted to the bar  pad. Driven by a short loop of 1/2" cutterless chain off the spur sprocket.
Making a living with a saw since age 16.

Roger I felt like dads winch earned its cost this year. It's on the front of a Polaris ranger 6x, 3500 warn.
Used it for pulling me up out of a ravine with a deer. Think goodness I didnt want to drag another deer out of that ravine 2 years in a row.

They are nice to have when you need them.   I even put one on my utility trailer for pulling big logs up into it.   It works great.
