I have been following Formula 1 racing for many years, where today extensive use of carbon fiber parts are used in all manner of components. CF is great for strength, stiffness and very light weight. However it has a few notable drawbacks; it catches fire and burns quite easily, and its' strength is uni-dimensional. That is to say it can be made to take stress in only one or two load plaines. Tap it from a direction it was not built for and it shatters. It is commonly used in suspension components and the monocoque, where the skin of an object is used to support the attachment of other components. Like some advanced full size sail planes.

I personally cannot see it surviving for long rolling around in the back of some logger's truck!
