I've been doing quite a bit of research lately on carbon fiber. There's a U.S. company that makes and sells to the public C.F. plate in many different thickness and grades.
The stronger the lighter grades really jump up in price, but not crazy expensive what I was imagining it would be.
Highest grade is very stiff and light over a steel and aluminum.
With the right grade of C.F. I can  possibly see a competition guide bar can be cut and have a roller nose riveted to it. Only steel in the bar would be the nose.

Anyone have thoughts on this?

I really do not think that the Carbon Fiber would hold up on the cutting side of the bar.    If a piece of metal could be inserted there than you have a good idea.

I found C.F. silencers are built for moto cross tuned exhaust pipes. Now that is really heat resistant on the area of  a pipe that gets that hot.  So I'm thinking it can take the friction heat. Maybe a kevlar layer built into the C.F. like what's available can give a strong wear surface for the bar rails. Don't forget you'll have a good lubrication on the rails too.
C.F. can equal or exceed stiffness of steel.
Now I'm not referring to building a C.F. bar for work purposes  but for competition use.

Well one way to find out.   Give it a shot.   Would really be interesting to see.

That looks like it would work for testing.   I am still not convinced that it will not wear down with the chain riding on the edge of that carbon fiber.   Even for race saw competition your still turning a lot of RPM's with that chain.

I would bet stihl tried a full carbon bar and then ended up going with the carbon insert like below. Just my WAG

My son was awarded a full academic scholarship to Ohio Northern university .His major at that time was what they called "composite engineering " which was a study of carbon fiber and other like materials .He felt the field was limited as far as employment and changed his major to electrical engineering but later became an IT guru .

He felt however as methods evolved these types of materials will become less costly given an amount of time .Just look back to when aluminum first became used it was very costly . I imagine back around 100 years ago people rolled their  eyes at the very mention of an aluminum piston as a replacement for the cast iron pistons used .It's common place today .Never say never .
