On an auto type engine it's a little complicated .The rods are balanced as per weight in general plus dynamically big end to small end .Pistons have weight "bosses " which are milled to get the exact weight for each assembley .In modern production methods it's all done on CNC machinery . I would have no idea how a person using standard manual machine tools would do it .
