What is the benefit of larger gauges? My Dolmar is .050 would it benefit from a higher gauge? Is it possible to use a higher gauge chain?

The bar also has to have the same gauge as the chain.

I understand you need to match the bar and likely the sprocket but I was wondering why the different gauges?

In the area where I live it is predominantly .050. If you have a .058 bar you have to order over the Interweb.

I understand that in New England, everything is .058.

I have several Stihls with .325 chain that are 063.

I bought a 16" small pattern Husky bar (Oregon Power Match brand K295) to be 3/8 regular and .050. It was .325 so I changed the tip to 3/8 and ran it rather than sending it back.
