CS-306 great shape but very hard to start

Thinking of buying a new carb for this or even trying a good carb from a cs4400.  any thoughts?

rear handle 30.1cc saw that carvers seemed to like.   Just a guess = rear handled version of their older top handle saw.

I took the carb off again and low and behold the fuel meter lever was well below the edge of the carb. Adjusted that, put it back together ( what a pig) and off she went 3rd pull.  Carb still not quite right, revs but starts to die when on high revs.
