There are two parts to the vent.

First, there is the black tube that extends to the opposite side of the gas tank to prevent spills.

Then second, there is a little filter disk that fits in the outlet of the vent. This disk is easy to get out with a scribe or ice pick.

There should not be any reason to need to remove the tube? They are hard to get out because there is almost no way to get a hold on it.

Some later model chainsaws did not have the filter disk but had a plastic elbow with a tubing nipple on its end. The tubing went up inside the carb air box area into a loop and then connected to a nipple in the bottom of the carb air box that exited to the outside.
