44mm but looks like a 350 cyl mag crankcase like a 353 flat top piston

I cant remember the details on these. Husqvarna 351 were like the 353 or the 350.  Thinking it was the metal crankcase like 353.

Come with 44mm bore or the later 45mm bore.  Dished or flat top piston stock?

Easy way to know what cylinder you have is to look to see if it has the removable transfer caps on the side.  Only the 45mm had them.  And if its not wore off, the number "44 or 45" should be stamped on top of cylinder.  44mm mostly were blue ink, and the 45mm were black ink.  The (EPA) 351 came out in late 2002.   After 2003, the 351 had the 353 45mm jug on them I believe as I had one.   Be careful about mis matching the cylinder bolts as the early ones had course thread and later ones had fine thread.  Fine thread started around 2005 and affected most all models with metal case, 351, 353, 346xp, Jonny models:  2147 (346oe), 2149 (351), 2152 (353), 2153 (346ne).

I picked up a good 351 and gave it to my brother 4-5 years ago.
Had planned to put a 346 top-end on it, but it runs too good to mess with.

True - and the 351 never got the 45mm 353 cylinder with a dished piston like the EPA version of the 350 did. There is a possibility that some late production 351s had a closed port 44mm cylinder that was made the same way as the 353 top end though, as it is a fact that some late production Jonsered 2149s did (basically same saw).

The 351 was replaced by the 353 some time in the second halv of 2002. Everything except the top end was the same between the 346xp (OE), the 351 and the 353 - with the usual exception of changes that was a matter of production time and not model.

I finally found evidence that some months worth of 351 production in 2002 actually came with such a top end, in one of several hundred service bulletins made available to me by @ray benson.

I love the service bulletins some great nuggets of information.  I wish they were availble all in ones spot for various models.

       That 44mm motor runs darn good and will impress you when you do a gasket delete and muffler mod.  Try it sometime.  Sure like mine.
