New Meteor Circlips
« on: March 24, 2013, 05:01:56 pm »
I got a new Meteor piston the other day for my Dolmar 6800. It had the new "C" configured  circlips instead of the kind with the tabs bent on the ends.

I found it very difficult to get my arthritic fingers to install the new clips. Took me an hour and many tries to get the first one in the groove and that was inside the house at a desk with a good light. I was just not strong enough to get the job done. I felt that my strength was really failing these last few months? I couldn't remember the clips being that hard to install?

When I installed the piston on the chainsaw, I used one of the OEM Dolmar clips which looked identical. It went right in place and seated perfectly no problem.

So the moral to this story is that the new design Meteor circlips are really stiff.

Don't you just know that one day you are going to slide that big work bench away from the wall and run a magnet around on the floor and find a couple dozen circlips and small screws from years passed?

Al Smith has some kind of homemade cir-clip   installer for those types.  There is also a very pricey installer sold too.

Might be in this thread.  http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/tools/more-home-made-stuff/

I've been going to make a handfull of cir clip installers as soon as I get my lathe back running .It isn't a big deal ,Might take me ten minutes apiece .

The big clips ,12-13 mm are pretty easy but those itty little 10s' and worse the 8s' for a 200T are a chore.

On the Meteor pistons I normally save the old clips and re use them .The Meteor clips are little on the fat side .

I wonder if you can buy clips in bulk some place .
