Clutch Spring Replacement????

I Bought a used MS440 It's in really nice shape I'm going over it and just want to make sure everything is working like it should. I ordered a new clutch drum,Sprocket and bearing and wanted to make sure the clutch springs are ok. How do you test the springs? and How hard is it to change the springs?
is there a trick to it? Thanks for any advice

If the clutch lever snaps over center each way the spring is OK

It is too much trouble to get the spring back into place to take it out and look at it for the sake of having done it.

Sounds like you are referring to the brake band spring and not the clutch springs like the OP intended.

Clutch springs are inexpensive and easily replaced.
I just do em one at time using a pair of needle nose pliers.

Thanks.... 660 I should have been more specific that I was referring to the three springs on the  clutch
I thought it should be an easy job, but  thought i better ask first.
Can the springs be replaced without taking the clutch off?
I've run into a couple clutches that where a SOB to spin loose.

Yes!

I replaced all clutch springs on my 044 last night in about 5min.
An offset pair of needle nose pliers are your friend.

Thanks again for the info.  I just put a new OEM clutch drum, rim sprocket and bearing on the saw. the bearing fits the crank nice and tight (no slop)
But this saw still has a ringing coming from the clutch area. would weak clutch springs cause the ringing sound
the ping-ping-ping metallic sound some saws make just sounds to loud from this saw. I'm gonna put new springs on it now to see if it makes a difference.

I have a saw that ring-a-dings. I put a new clutch spider, shoes, and spring in it and the ringing still persists. The drum is tight on the bearing and crank. I had bought a new drum but it was made for a older version saw and wouldn't drive the pump.
