Chainsaw Repair

A Vermont saw shop posted this on their Facebook page. Anyone know the real story, or is this just more internet BS?

This is what I heard but I may need some clarification. I was picking up some parts at the Stihl Dealer and got talking about saws. He said Stihl is reversing its course on the new saws and it was regarding carburetion. I thought he said that the "strato" saws were being ditched and new better mufflers would keep the emissions down. It also it could be that the M-tronic carbs were being ditched in favor of better mufflers for epa mandates. Anyways, I am confused, and was hoping the strato saws were going in the dust bin of history. Any one know what is really going on with Stihl?

I do like they are making saws with both options now. 

Me I am choosing regular carbs if I bought one of their saws.

I was told by stihl reps at the tcia EXPO that the new saw will be m tronic and all the pro saws will be. The 362 regular carb will be around for a short while.

"Better mufflers" in that context would have to be more restrictive ones - so that sounds like going backwards into the future. Stihl has done that before (only on the US market then, on US made models) - and I doubt they want to repeat it.

Another observation is that (at least so far) making most of the models "strato" and/or AT/M-tronic ones allows the brands (Husky and Stihl mainly) to keep some fairly low volume models "traditional", without particularly restrictive mufflers - or at least not more restrictive than they have been the last decade+.
