Carbon build up removal

Needs some tips on how to remove carbon build up around the exhaust port.

I scrape off what can be removed with a home made scraper.
I ten apply some diluted toilet cleaner (strong alkali) or caustic soda.
Leave it for more time for the deposits to loosen up
Then a scour pad and finally was it off with water.
All that with the cylinder removed.

If it has to be on the engine, I move the piston to TDC, Use a piece of cotton to shield piston,  use a scraper and NC thinner.

I'm going to pull the cylinder on my S25DA. Not looking forward to taking the saw that far apart. No sense in half###ing it. Thanks for the suggestions.

I'm thinking whoever had the S25DA last ran it way too rich.

I usually use a burr on a flex shaft and grind it out.

Be careful about using strong alkali cleaners around aluminum or Magnesium.

If the caustic cleaner is left on the piston or cylinder like overnight, the chance of a chemical reaction damaging the metal is highly likely.

Caustics are OK to leave on there short term but be sure to completely remove them or the alkali will keep on working.

Alkali will turn aluminum a dull gray color and magnesium to white powder.

I was only planning on letting the cylinder soak for a couple of hours.
