Chainsaw Repair

I started a 505 project and I'm on a search and destroy mission on finding out just what I can get for this saw. So far (and thanks to great help) I know I can run a Husky 55 coil and a piston from an 066. What are the options for the sleeve(cylinder), are we stuck with what we got or scrounging for used 505 or 2083 sleeves or is there a source for something new?

I may not need one, I'm currently still assessing mine, I just like to know what I can and can't do before I start.

Yeah, the more I look the more it looks like its a used thing only. Ill have to keep my eye out for the once in a while eBay score that someone happened to find on their shelf.

Oh you don't understand just how I work, but you will! I don't think there's anything wrong with mine. Before I touch anything, guns, cars, boats...you name it, I like to find out what can and can be done. What's out there to replace what I've f'd up. What can I mod with little concern caused I know I can replace it. Its just how I tick. My goals for the saw are simple. I want something I can pull out from time to time to make stihl husky guys just shake their head. This weekend Im going to make sure the oil pump is good (was a tad light on bar oil) and work more on the build up of the hub the dogs engage on the recoil starter. I built it up enough last weekend for a start, but its Stoll not perfect-little more welding and shaping needed. Once that, oil pump and fuel lines are done (husky 55 coil should be here tomarrow, thanks) ill tune and see if it meets my base expectations. Mods I know are going down are muffler and sometime after that 066 piston. I might have a longer decomp valve this weekend also, to take up some of those threads. Now that I know jugs are rare, I won't be porting and keeping the jug in working condition is paramount. Ill grab some pics of the hub this weekend when I'm done. Also have some cool ideas for the muffler...my miller 330 TIG machine will be getting use!
