024 rebuild top end
« on: April 23, 2018, 08:32:15 pm »
Working on a 024 and have many questions.  One question is how does the muffler attach? it seems to have very short bolts but the muffler doesn't appear to open up so you can get at the bolts. ??? The saw came to me missing a number of parts, muffler included so I didn't get to take it appart.

There are 2bolts that go in the bottom of the muffler and cover that thread into the crankcase. The muffler and cover slide together at the top. Pry out the cover at the bottom near the bolt holes and wiggle and pull down and they should come apart. That will give you access to the inner bolt holes the attach the muffler to the cylinder. Hope that helps and is not as clear as mud.

026 shows the muffler too. I have the same muffler on the 026 I just rebuilt, I think.  Just like jmester says to do it.

Mine is the middle one and now opened the single hole up to one big oval. Makes a different on these IMO.

Next question, what does the air filter cover lock onto?

Just now waiting for my parts order to arrive.  It seems a few very small bit missing, grounding spring, 1 spike bolt, 1 recoil bolt, fuel tank vent.  Annoying really these parts are cheap but shipping kills it

That cover above in my 026 pic is left over if needed. The guy went with the decomp and decomp 026 cover I had.

My first order from Huztl has arrived.  This one has P&C, muffler, clutch cover and af cover.  And a few small bits.  I had to go to a Stihl dealer to get replacement muffler and cylinder bolts, paid more for them than the P&C from Huztl! Something very Stihl is they have switched from allen head bolts to Torx head bolts of T27 size, very hard to find in my neck of the woods.
